COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Federal officials say more than 186,000 Ohioans have signed up for health coverage during the current enrollment period of President Barack Obama’s health care law.
Thursday marks the second Open Enrollment deadline for the 2015 Health Insurance Marketplace for anyone wanting coverage starting on Feb. 1.
Open enrollment for the federally run insurance marketplace began Nov. 15 and ends on Feb. 15.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services officials said in a Wednesday statement that as of last week, Ohio had 186,232 residents select health plans for this year.
The agency says more than 85 percent of Ohioans signing up in the first month of the enrollment period were eligible for financial help.
Federal officials say nearly 6.8 million people have picked a health plan or were automatically re-enrolled in the marketplace since open enrollment began.
