COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two people are dead after a violent weekend Columbus, which saw at least four other people injured, including a teenager hit by a stray bullet.
Columbus police officers dispatched to the area of Derbyshire and Lantern Drives on the report of gunfire at 9:30 p.m. Saturday found an unidentified man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday, officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area of Sidney Street and Leona Avenue found Maurice Hall, 28, sitting in his vehicle. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 15-year-old boy was listed in serious condition after being shot outside a gas station on the East Side early Sunday morning.
Columbus police say a fight that broke out between Antonio Chatman and two men shortly before 2:30 a.m. outside a gas station at E. Broad and N. 20th streets-he stood outside the gas station.
Chatman’s girlfriend pulled a handgun and fired multiple shots at the two men. Chatman then took the firearm from and fired multiple shots in their direction, detectives said.
The 15-year-old boy was struck by gunfire in his left arm and upper left torso. Police say he was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in serious, but stable, condition.
Chatman, 18, and his girlfriend, Nicole Pollard, 22, are in jail, charged with felonious assault, police said.
Police say Freddie Johnson, 27, was in stable condition after shot twice in the back at close range at the Red Zone bar, 303 S. Front Street, just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday.
Two 24-year-old men were in the hospital and expected to recover from their wounds after being shot in front of a Northeast Side apartment early Friday morning.
Detectives say Demetrius Williams and Donte Vail were standing in front of 2735 Pontiac Street when someone opened fire from an unknown location, hitting both men in the right leg.
