COLUMBUS – One man is in jail in a deadly stabbing incident on the Northeast Side Saturday night while police continue their search for a suspect in a fatal shooting hours later near a Far East Side bar.
Brandarius Agnew, 26, was in jail early Sunday morning, charged with murder in the stabbing death of a 60-year-old man in the 6100 block of Cooper Colony Drive, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.
Officers responding to a stabbing at 7:52 p.m., found William Dammond, who was taken to a hospital where he died at 9:13 p.m., Shimberg said.
During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Agnew as a suspect and were able to arrest him a short distance from the scene.
Agnew was charged with murder and taken to the Franklin County Jail, Shimberg said.
The incident remains under investigation.
Just before midnight, officers were called to the 1000 block of Country Club Road on a report of shots being fired and, when they arrived, they found 40-year-old Jeffery Chandler suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Marable said.
Chandler was patronizing a nearby bar when he and several other men began arguing.
The men agreed to take their dispute outside and Marable says customers at the bar reported hearing gunshots shortly afterward.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
These were the 116th and 117th homicides of the year in Columbus.
