2 dead in separate shootings

COLUMBUS – A 19-year old East Side man is in jail, charged with murder in one of two fatal shootings in Columbus Wednesday and Thursday.

Montez Wilson was charged with murder in the shooting death of Trevor Kindle, found inside a house around the corner Wilson’s home, said Sgt. Dave Sicilian of the Homicide Unit.

Officers responding to a report of shots fired at a home in the 1800 block of Fleming Road at 12:55 p.m. found Kindle, 22, inside, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Sicilian said.

Sicilian says officers had gone to the same address less than an hour earlier to check on a report of a disturbance involving Kindle. They resolved the incident but were called back when someone reported the gunshots.

They discovered information that indicated Wilson was involved in the incident and took him into custody in front of his home on Ivyhurst Drive, Sicilian said.

At 1:59 Thursday morning, officers called to 190 North Huron Avenue on the report of a shooting found Eric Murphy suffering from a gunshot wound, said Homicide Unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer.

Murphy, 32, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m., Strayer said.

There is no known motive and no suspects identified, Strayer said.

Detective’s Guy Patete #1447 and Jamie Porter #320 are assisting with this investigation.

These were the 68th and 69th homicides in Columbus this year.

Anyone with any additional information on this incident is encouraged to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS (8477).
