COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus police are trying to figure out who shot a man who collapsed in a parking lot following an argument over the weekend.
The fatal shooting of Russell Barlow was the second homicide of the weekend in the city.
Family members say Barlow, 44, was near the intersection of S. Champion and Frebis Avenue — halfway between his girlfriend’s house and his mom’s — when he dropped to the ground just before 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
The Columbus Dispatch reports the shooting occurred after an argument, but police don’t know who Barlow was fighting with.
Columbus homicide detectives aren’t sure exactly where Barlow was when he was shot, but they found blood and shell casings behind the house in the 1400 block of S. Champion Avenue where Barlow’s 34-year-old girlfriend lives with her parents.
Barlow was the 75th homicide victim of the year in Columbus and came about 24 hours after the 74th.
Officers responding in the area of 2469 Mallard’s Landing Drive, on the Northeast Side, to a call report of a body lying in the grass. Upon arriving at the scene officers found Alonzo Richards, 26, with an apparent gunshot wound. Richards was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said,
