COLUMBUS – Two men are dead following a confrontation inside a house in Licking County on Thursday afternoon that happened even as the Thanksgiving meal was being prepared, Sheriff Randy Thorp said.

Thorp said that 69-year-old Milton David Jarvis, who lives on Carlton Road in Heath, went to the home of Charles “Rick” Newman, in the 100 block of Rosemary Lane in Licking Township, and argued with him. Jarvis then pulled a handgun and shot Newman.
But that wasn’t the end.
“There was a struggle,” the sheriff said. When it was over, both men were dead.
Thorp said detectives are still trying to determine whether Jarvis was also somehow shot during the struggle for the gun or if he killed himself. His was the only gun recovered, Thorp said, adding that it will take some time to unravel. Autopsies will be done over the next day or two.
The call came into the sheriff’s office at 4 p.m.
