COLUMBUS – A 19-year-old man was killed and another person wounded in an exchange of gunfire between two groups of people outside a North Side Dairy Queen Saturday afternoon, police said.

Shortly before the shooting, which was reported just after 2:20 p.m., Nathaniel Joe-Summerall, the second adult and several men gathered in the parking lot of the business in the 1500 block of Schrock Road in what appeared to be a planned meeting, according to Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police Homicide Unit.

Shortly after the two groups met up, a fight broke out and there was an exchange of gunfire where Joe-Summerall and the second person were both injured, Marable said.

Joe-Summerall was pronounced dead at the scene while the second victim was taken to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital by “private conveyance,” Marable said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Det. Niederkohr of the Homicide Unit at 614-645-4222 or JNiederkohr @ColumbusPolice.org or call Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
