COLUMBUS – A 14-year-old boy died after being shot while riding a scooter on a Franklinton street early Friday, one of two teens shot in Columbus in a span of about five hours.

The boy, whose name was not released, and another teen were riding scooters eastbound on W. Rich Street near Dana Avenue at approximately 2:00 a.m. when two suspects began shooting at them, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit said.
The boy was taken to an area hospital where he died later, the 72nd homicide of the year in Columbus, he said.
The boy’s 15-year-old companion was not injured.
Another 15-year-old boy was shot in his right leg and buttock Thursday night at the Windsor Terrace apartments, police said.
The teen told police he was walking home at approximately 9:00 p.m. when he heard several gunshots and realized he had been shot, Det. Bob McCotter of the Felony Assault Unit said.
He was taken to OSU Medical Center East by his stepmother, where he is expected to survive, McCotter said.
The youth said he did not see where the gunshots came from and was unable to provide any further information.
