COLUMBUS – With 114 homicides to date, 2017 is now the second-deadliest year in Columbus history.
UPDATE 8:18 a.m. Nov. 22: Marzett Hawkins III, 27, of Blacklick, was with murder in the death of Kevin Watkins Jr. and was arrested without incident by SWAT team members.
The newest murder victim is a man found at approximately 8:10 p.m. Sunday in the area of Lilley Avenue and E. Mound Street by officers responding to a reported shooting, Homicide Unit Sgt. Stanley Latta said.
The 114 homicides in Columbus so far this year is the most since 1991 when 139 murders were recorded.

Latta says initial information indicated that the man, whose name was not released early Monday pending notification of next-of –kin, was on the corner and appeared to have been shot there.
The officers performed first aid but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus fire personnel at 8:21 p.m., Latta said.
There were no known suspects or motives in the slaying.
