$21K raised for workers displaced by state park fire

COLUMBUS – In a little over a week, an effort to raise money to help the families of two dozen workers at a state park dining lodge destroyed by fire brought in over $21,000, organizers said.

The Friends of The Hocking Hills State Park reports that $21,377 was raised in just eight days for the staff of the Hocking Hills Dining Lodge, which was destroyed by a massive Dec. 8 fire.

After donations came in from across Ohio, members of the group on Saturday announced that each employee would receive a check for $819.50 plus a $50 Kroger Gift Card. Workers with children also got toys and additional gift cards, organization officials said

The families of the employees include 10 children, ranging in age from a newborn infant to two 16-year-olds.

FHHSP says it will continue collecting funds to support the families beyond the holidays until they find other jobs.
