COLUMBUS – Gas prices in central Ohio have dipped below the $2 a gallon mark, the lowest since January.
According to the website ColumbusGasPrices.com, stations in eastern Franklin County has marked their regular gas down to $1.99 early Monday morning.
The average price for a gallon of regular in the Columbus region was $2.21, according to Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s a decrease of 16 cents in one week and is 67 cents cheaper than at the 4th of July weekend.
The statewide average was about $2.31, 15 cents less than a week ago and down $1.17 from this time last year.

The cost of gas for Ohio drivers has been declining from a summer peak in June, and that’s expected to continue. Ohio’s 17-cent-a-gallon between July 20 and July 27 was the biggest price drop in country for than 7-day period.
Most drivers are paying the lowest July prices since 2009 and are saving 82 cents per gallon at the pump compared to a year ago, AAA public relations manager Michael Green said.
The national average on Monday was $2.65, down six cents from a week ago.
