COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes fell one spot to No. 13 in the USA Today college football poll after Saturday’s double-overtime win at Penn State, their last game before the new College Football Playoff committee releases its rankings.
Ohio State (6-1, 3-0) was also 13th in the AP Top 25.
Mississippi State was No. 1 in both polls, followed by Florida State, Alabama and Auburn. The AP poll listed Oregon at No. 5 while the USA Today coaches’ poll put Michigan State, which lost to the Ducks on Sept. 6, in the fifth spot.
The College Football Playoff selection committee releases its first Top 25 Tuesday.
The Buckeyes host Illinois Saturday (8:00 p.m./ABC).
