3 added to year’s homicide total

COLUMBUS – The year’s homicide total in Columbus increased by three due to a fatal shooting and the deaths of two other people injured in separate incidents earlier this month.

Police say Robert Farrow was fighting with a 21-year-old man in the 100 block of Wilson Road on the West Side just after 10:00 p.m. Tuesday when Farrow pulled a handgun and shot the man, whose name has not been released, Sgt. James Marable of the homicide unit said.,

The victim was taken by Franklin Township paramedics to Doctor’s West Hospital where he died just before 11:00, the 28th homicide of 2022 in Columbus.

Farrow, 44, was arrested on a murder charge, Marable said.

Second victim in bar shooting dies

A quadruple shooting at a Northeast Side bar has claimed a second life, police said.

Mareo Bell, 33, died as a result of injuries he suffered in the March 11 shooting outside Podunk’s Bar, 1644 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Marable said.

Detectives had already filed arrest warrants charging Wayne Coffman, 34, with the death of 36-year-old Laurence Ball during the incident. He has also been charged with felonious assault for injuring two other people.

Police say the shootings resulted from a fight inside the bar that spilled out into the parking lot.

Marable says anyone who knows the whereabouts of Coffman, whose last known address was 2301 E. 5th Avenue, is asked to contact the Columbus police homicide unit at 614-645-4730.

Woman dies 3 days after shooting in parked van

A 48-year-old woman who was shot by a man as they sat in a van on an East Side street early died of her injuries Tuesday, the 27th homicide of the year in Columbus, Marable said.

Heidi Duda was in a van with Rodney Vanatta in the 1000 block of Country Club Road at 2:31 a.m. when Vanatta, 53, shot Duda, who was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition, Marable said.

Vanatta was originally charged with felonious assault for causing H.D.’s injuries.
