3 dead in shootings over 9 hours

COLUMBUS – Police have very little in the way of clues to go on in their investigations into three separate shootings over a nine-hour period Saturday night and Sunday morning that left a woman and two men dead.

At approximately 6:26 p.m. Saturday officers checking out a report that a person had been shot near E. Fulton Street and Fairwood Avenue in Franklin Park found Jewel Rogers, 30, inside of a duplex in the 1700 block of E. Fulton Street where she was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later, according to homicide detectives.

At 12:47 Sunday morning officers were called to the 1000 block of Republic Avenue in North Linden found Bernard “Randy” Erby lying unresponsive in the front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound. Erby, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators said.

Police say witnesses could only describe hearing a gunshot and seeing a small car leaving the scene afterwards.

At approximately 2:50 a.m., officers were investigating a report of several gunshots and a man lying in the street outside an apartment building on Melroy Avenue near Kelkburn Road on the Far East Side, police said.

They found Salvador Martinez Diaz lying in the street with several gunshot wounds.

Martinez Diaz, 25, was pronounced dead later at Grant Medical Center.

These incidents bring the total number of homicides in Columbus in 2016 to 92.
