John William Medlin IV died early Saturday morning after he and an unidentified juvenile fought with a group of people at a Hilltop intersection, according to Homicide Unit Sgt. Jeff Strayer.

Strayer says Medlin, 190, and the other victim were confronted by unknown suspects near the intersection of S. Warren Avenue and Olive Street just before 5:30 a.m. where a fight began and Medlin was shot. Officers found him lying on the porch at 92 S. Warren Avenue and Medlin was pronounced dead a few minutes later, the 40th homicide victim of the year in Columbus, Strayer said.

The juvenile who was with Medlin at the time of the shooting was physically assaulted by the suspects and taken to Mt. Carmel West Hospital in stable condition, said Strayer.

There are no known motives or suspects at this time and Strayer says the investigation continues.
