3 slain in violent weekend

COLUMBUS – Three people were killed over the weekend in Columbus, raising the record number of homicides already recorded in the city this year to 157.

Officers responding to a Shotspotter notification of gunshots in the 1800 block of Republic Avenue in Linden just after 6:15 p.m. Sunday found Jasmine Johnson 28, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit.

Mifflin Township paramedics took Johnson to Riverside Medical Center, where she died later.

Shimber says witnesses told police that an unknown person drove by the home and fired off multiple rounds, striking Johnson.

A 15-year-old boy admitted to stabbing his sister to death during a fight on the Hilltop Saturday night, Sgt. James Marable said.

Officers found Sinnea Thomas, 28, suffering from stab wounds in the 700 block of Butler Avenue at 9:06 p.m. She died later at Grant Medical Center.

Shortly after Thomas had been taken to the hospital, her 15-year-old brother approached officers guarding the scene and admitted to the stabbing.

Marable says the two had been fighting all day and the teen armed himself with a knife, stabbing his sister when the fighting resumed.

One person died in a triple shooting at an East Side apartment complex Friday night. The other victims included the suspect, Shimberg said. No names had been released early Monday.

The shooting happened before at 11:58 p.m. in the area of 2885 Barclay Square South. Investigators are still attempting to locate persons of interest and gather additional information, Shimberg said.

A 15-year-old went to Mount Carmel West Hospital just after at 2:30 a.m. Sunday being shot in the face, which caused her to lose several teeth. She told police she went to a house on Brehl Avenue on the West Side to fight a girl over an ongoing dispute and was shot when she started walking back home, Assault Unit Det. Bob McCotter said.

She was discovered lying in the street by an unknown individual who took her to the hospital.

The girl refused to identify the suspects but a witness who was with the victim described them.

The victim was transported to Children’s Hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive, McCotter said.
