3-year-old shot accidentally expected to survive

COLUMBUS – A 3-year-old boy is expected to be OK after being accidentally shot by a relative Friday.

Columbus police a 26-year-old man had a handgun in his pocket while he was rough-housing with the boy inside a home on Jermain Drive Friday night when the gun fell out of his pocket and went off, striking the boy.

The boy was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he was listed in stable condition with a wound to his buttocks and was expected to survive, Det. Bob McCotter of the Felony Assault Unit said.

Darsean Rawls was charged with negligent assault, McCotter said.
