The work is part of a larger project by the City of Columbus to upgrade streets, sidewalks and other infrastructure on W. Third Avenue between Olentangy River Road and Edgehill Road to improve traffic flow and safety, and provide pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations.

Construction on the final phase began in 2016 and is scheduled to end in July 2019.

Grandview Heights city officials say the new Third Ave and Edgehill Road signal will be fully operational before the full closure of the roadway at 9 a.m.

They say the closure will be in place for no more than three weeks.

Eastbound Third Avenue is already detoured at Northwest Boulevard, except for local business traffic, a closure that is expected to be in place for the rest of the year as part of a widening, reconstruction and pedestrian path project which also includes the railroad bridge.

Other improvements include widening and reconstructing the roadway, constructing a new two-span railroad bridge; building curbs, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps, sidewalks and a shared-use path; upgrading street lights, signs and underground cables for traffic signals; planting street trees and landscaping and installing new traffic signals at
Edgehill Road and W. Third Avenue and Edgehill Road and W. Fifth Avenue.
