3rd seed Buckeyes begin women’s tourney run at home

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State women’s basketball team earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and will play host to George Washington in the opening round.

The Buckeyes are making their 25th NCAA Tournament appearance, and their fourth straight.

Their opening-round game will follow a game between No. 6 seed LSU and No. 11 seed Central Michigan. The winners will then meet on Monday evening.

Ohio State has advanced to the Elite Eight three times with its best run being a runner-up finish in 1993.

George Washington won four games last week to claim the A-10 Tournament title and earn that conference’s automatic berth.

Tickets for the NCAA Women’s Basketball 1st and 2nd rounds will go on sale to the public at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the OSU Athletic Ticket Office.

Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and Nebraska also made the tournament field out of the Big Ten.

UConn is back in the familiar position of being the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament.

Joining the Huskies as top seeds are Notre Dame, Louisville and Mississippi State.

The women’s Final Four will be played in Columbus March 30-April 1 at Nationwide Arena.
