COLUMBUS, Ohio – Six people, including a Marion man and two members of his family, were killed in accidents on Ohio roads Sunday.
James Wyatt III, of Marion, apparently lost control of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring he was driving eastbound on state Route 229 and crashed into a tree, killing himself, his sister and her daughter and sending another person to the hospital in critical condition, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Wyatt, 33, his 28-year-old sister Elizabeth and Elizabether Wyatt’s eight-year-old daughter Isabella died at the scene, the patrol said. Jessica Wray, 22, of Alexandria, Va., was the front-seat passenger and was in critical condition at OSU Wexner Medical Center. Wray was James Wyatt’s fiancé, patrol Sgt. Robert Curry said.
Investigators did not say whether snow-covered roads were a factor in the crash. They said alcohol use is not suspected.
The patrol says three people died in a two-vehicle crash in eastern Ohio Sunday morning on state Route 518 in Wayne Township, Columbiana County.
Troopers say Rachel Lindesmith, 26, of Hanoverton, was driving eastbound when she went crossed the center line and crashed into an SUV, killing three of the nine people inside.
Authorities say James Nign, 39; his wife, Meghann Nign, 27, and 11-year-old Addisyn Benzel were killed. Six other children were taken to area hospitals.
Lindesmith was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, along with her nine-month-old son.
Troopers say the investigation is ongoing and Lindesmith has not been charged.
Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies are still investigating a one-car accident Friday that left a 29-year-old woman dead.
Amy Kempton lost control of the 1999 Toyota Corolla she was driving southbound on Johnstown Road, north of Walnut Street, in Plain Township at about noon, Sheriff Zach SAcott said.
Kempton’s car went off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole.
Scott says neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor.
