COLUMBUS – The State Highway Patrol says preliminary data shows four deaths on Ohio roads over the 2019-2020 holiday period that included New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
The reporting period began at midnight Tuesday and ran through 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.
A patrol release says two of the four people who died were not wearing available seat belts and one of fatalities was related to a case of impaired driving.
A total of 12 fatalities occurred on Ohio roads a year ago when the holiday reporting period covered four days.
The patrol reported making 121 arrests for operating a motor vehicle while impaired, 48 citations for distracted driving and 278 safety belt citations.
