COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three central Ohio men were killed during what turned out to be a deadly weekend for motorcycle drivers in Ohio.
Two 27-year-old men and one 25-year-old were killed in separate accidents between early Friday morning and Saturday afternoon. A crash involving two motorcycles and a pickup truck killed a man and seriously injured two others, including his wife, in northern Ohio.
It took a hours of searching by Columbus police officers and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers to locate the body of David Chanthavisay of Canal Winchester, who was killed early Saturday morning on the West Side, but whose body was not located until late in the afternoon.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the search began after a trooper came upon some of his family members and friends walking along the roadway, looking for him.
Officers found Chanthavisay, 25, and his motorcycle under heavy brush up on a steep embankment along I-70 at I-670. He had apparently run off the roadway during the early morning hours of Saturday and pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Police say Kip Johnson was driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed southbound on Summit Street just before midnight Friday when he struck a car, driven by Suzanne Hrabowy, 20, that crossed in his path. Johnson, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are awaiting toxicology tests but say alcohol may be a factor in that crash. It’s unknown if alcohol played a role in Johnson’s case.
The Ohio State Patrol says a pickup turned in front of two motorcycles Saturday night on state Route 53 in Port Clinton. Two married couples on the motorcycles, all wearing helmets, were thrown from their bikes after hitting the truck.
Thomas Lamb, 53, of Boardman was killed. His wife and the driver of the pickup were flown to a Toledo hospital with serious injuries.
