4 OSU players skipping bowl game

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Four Buckeye players say they are sitting out Saturday’s Rose Bowl game against Utah.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson is skipping the Rose Bowl to enter the NFL draft.

Wilson made the announcement in a statement on Twitter at the same time the Buckeyes were at Disneyland. Wilson is considered a potential first-round draft pick.

Head coach Ryan Day also said Monday that wide receiver Chris Olave, offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and defensive tackle Haskell Garrett are bypassing the game.

The teams visited visited Disneyland on Monday but other events in the buildup to the game have been called off amid rising cases of COVID-19 in Southern California.

Four bowl games this season have been canceled because of virus issues, and two others have turned to replacement teams after their original matchups were scuttled.

Both teams say they’re being cautious and hope to have no one miss the game because of COVID-19.

The Arizona Bowl was canceled after Boise State pulled out. Central Michigan was supposed to be in the Arizona Bowl but will instead replace Miami in Friday’s Sun Bowl against Washington State.
