4 shot in separate incidents

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two separate shootings left one man dead and sent three other people to the hospital in Columbus overnight.

Rondell Brinkley became the city’s 72nd homicide victim of 2014 around midnight when he was gunned down on a sidewalk on S. Champion Avenue between Whittier and Kossuth streets on the Southeast Side, according to Homicide Unit investigators.

Officer responding to a reported shooting in front of 1029 S. Champion Avenue found Brinkley, 24, with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He died about a half hour later at Grant Medical Center, police said.

Three people were taken to the hospital in stable condition after being shot in an apparent drive-by shooting on the East Side.

Police say someone opened fire on Cordell Washington, 27; Mark Tyshawn-Dominique Hardy, 23, and James Hardy, 24, outside Club 83 at the intersection of 5th and Joyce Avenues at approximately 2:38 a.m.

There was no other information available Thursday morning.
