COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A Columbus City Schools bus driver accused of driving her bus drunk with two young students aboard is serving five days in jail.
Tia Denton had pleaded guilty to single misdemeanor charges of drunken driving and endangering children. A judge on Tuesday sentenced the Denton, 51, to 180 days in jail on each count and suspended all but five days.
Authorities say Denton was driving erratically and had a blood alcohol content that was more than twice the legal limit when she was stopped while driving a bus in November. Denton later resigned.
Denton’s attorney previously said she would enter an alcohol treatment program. Attorney Eric Nordman didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment Tuesday.
