Documents obtained by The Dispatch show the Columbus Partnership has made the request of the state to be funded in the biennial state capital improvements bill that will be proposed in the next few months.

The proposal states that the facility will “serve as a backdrop for collegiate athletic teams and community youth programs … it will also serve to attract professional athletic teams and franchises for our region.”

The language in the request is vague about the reason for the project but several sources have confirmed that it’s a facility for the Browns to bring their camp here for three weeks every year.

The request does not guarantee state approval. Regardless, the Browns 2016 training camp will remain in its current facility in Berea, where it has held camp since 1992.
