5 shot at birthday party

COLUMBUS – No arrests had been made early Tuesday morning after police say five people were shot at a birthday party on the East Side.

Witnesses told detectives at the scene of the shooting in the 1200 block of E. Long Street that two groups of young men got into an argument during a birthday party at about 12:40 a.m. and someone opened fire, resulting in five people being shot, Det. Ian Pruitt of the Assault Unit said.

Officers found three victims at the scene and they were taken to a hospital while a second area hospital reported that two more gunshot victims had walked in, Pruitt said. All victims are expected to survive their injuries.

It was still unclear early Tuesday which group started the confrontation or how many people actually fired their weapons.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call the Columbus Police Assault Unit at 614-645-4141 or Crime Stoppers at 645-TIPS (8477).
