COLUMBUS – A Mt. Vernon man has been arrested in the 32-year-old shooting death of a woman in Gahanna.

Douglas Krumlauf has been indicted on charges of murder and aggravated murder in the death of Sharla Spangler, whose body was found early on the morning of Jan. 30, 1985, said Det. Steve Eppert of the Columbus police Homicide Cold Case Unit.
On Jan. 29, 1985, Sharla Spangler, 24, went to work as usual at the Gold Fox Lounge in Gahanna and was last seen leaving the lounge, according to a report by WBNS 10-TV. Her car and purse were recovered in the parking lot, and her body was found outside a vacant service station lot at the corner of E. Dublin Granville Road and N. Hamilton Road. She had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, Eppert said
The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office told the television station that Krumlauf, now 63, was connected to the crime after his fingerprints were entered into a database in 2015.
The investigation was pursued over the next year and a half and was presented to the Franklin County Grand Jury on Friday, Eppert said
Krumlauf was indicted on one count of aggravated murder and one count of murder and was arrested at a local hospital on Saturday, Eppert said.
The state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and Knox County Sheriff’s Office also participated in the investigation, Eppert said.
