683 inquiries about Powell Chipotle illness outbreak

COLUMBUS – Health officials in Delaware are still trying to pin down what caused an outbreak of apparent food-borne illness stemming from a Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurant in Powell last weekend.

Results of tests on stool samples sent to the Ohio Department of Health were negative for salmonella, shigella, E.coli and norovirus but further testing will be conducted for other pathogens, Delaware General Health District spokeswoman Traci Whittaker said.

Food samples taken from the restaurant are still in the process of being tested for those diseases as well as bacillus cereus or clostridium perfringens.

Whittaker says the agency has received 683 inquiries from people who think they may have been sickened at the restaurant, which was closed briefly on Monday.
