COLUMBUS, Ohio – A seven-week-old baby and his mom went to the hospital and a man died in separate shooting incidents overnight.
Jazmen Pettigrew was sitting in her parked vehicle with her two sons in the area of 430 Wespot Drive just before midnight when someone fired several at the vehicle, hitting it twice, Assault Unit Det. Matthew Smith said.
Pettigrew, 23, drove out of the parking lot and called 911, police said. Pettigrew was reportedly taken to Grant Medical Center and her infant son, Mekhi Green-Pettigrew, was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Smith said.
Smith says the shooting stemmed from a fight that occurred in the area, but said they did not know the identity of the shooter.

The shooting of Pettigrew and her son happened about an hour after another double shooting, this one on the West Side.
Javon VanCleaf, 22, was sitting behind the wheel of his vehicle on W. Broad Street near N. Oakley Avenue when he another man were shot, Sgt. Jeffrey Strayer of the Homicide Unit said.
VanCleaf was pronounced at the scene while Frederick Prater, 26, was treated at Mt. Carmel West Hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg and released.
This is the 15th homicide in Columbus in 2015.
