COLUMBUS, Ohio – Investigators say the life an eight-year-old girl could have been saved if she was wearing a seat belt when the SUV she was riding in rolled over on a Northeast Side freeway exit ramp Saturday night.
Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott says Kalen Smith wasn’t buckled up when the Ford Explorer SUV she was in rolled over as it was leaving I-270 southbound to eastbound state Route 161 in Blendon Township around 9:15 p.m. Saturday.
None of the eight other people in the vehicle being driven by Tyhuana Henley, 20, of Columbus, was buckled up, and they were in stable condition at local hospitals, Scott said.
The accident remains under investigation Sunday. It was unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
