AAA predicts most Ohio travelers ever this 4th of July

COLUMBUS – A lot of people are planning to get away from home for the 4th of July holiday weekend, spurred by a stronger economy, rising consumer confidence and cheap gasoline.

According to the AAA, 1.76 million Ohioans will travel at least 50 miles from home during the holiday period from next Wednesday to Sunday, 2.7 percent more than last year and the highest number since the auto club began keeping records, AAA Ohio spokeswoman Kim Schwind said.

The national organization says an estimated 41.9 million people plan to travel during the holiday weekend, up 0.7 percent from last year and the most since 2007, right before the recession.

Schwind says 1.5 million Ohioans will be among the 35.5 million people who will hit the roadways during the holiday. They will be enjoying retail gas prices approximately $1.10 lower than the same time in 2014.
