Accidents claim two lives

COLUMBUS – Two men are dead following separate accidents in Columbus early Thursday morning.

Columbus police say a 20-year-old man whose name had not been released early Thursday died when his car crashed into a church on the Hilltop at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The man was driving a 2000 Saab westbound on W. Mound Street “well in excess of the posted speed limit” when he failed to negotiate the curve at the intersection with S. Wayne Avenue, drove off the south side of the street and struck the Compel Christian Center, 2447 W. Mound St., on the southwest corner, Sgt. Brooke Wilson of the Accident Investigation Unit said.

The man was pronounced John Doe was pronounced dead at the scene.

A little over an hour later, Joshua Pushcar died after a two-car accident on the Northwest Side.

Police said Pushcar, 20, was driving a 2006 Scion northbound on Sawmill Road when he tried to make a left turn onto Delcane Drive and was hit by the southbound vehicle driven by Adrian Hays, 26, with enough force to force both vehicles onto the northeast corner of the intersection where Pushcar’s vehicle struck a brick wall, Wilson said.

Pushcar died later at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Hays and his passenger were in stable condition at Riverside, Wilson said.
