All alone on the edge of 17

COLUMBUS – The Blue Jackets make their bid for a piece of NHL history Thursday night when they go for their 17th consecutive win, which would tie them for the longest winning streak in league history.

The CBJ travels to Washington, D.C., to take on their Metropolitan Division rival Capitals in the Verizon Center (7:00 p.m./FOX Sports Ohio).

With a win in the nation’s capital would tie the Jackets for the NHL’s longest winning streak, a mark currently held by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins.

Record winning streaks haven’t always led to a Stanley Cup, however.

The ’82 Islanders captured the third of their four straight Cups after setting the record, matched by Columbus on Tuesday, but the ’93 Penguins saw their bid for a third consecutive Cup end by the Isles in the division finals.

If they win in Washington, the CBJ has a chance to set its own record when they host the Rangers Saturday night.
