COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Toledo man was arrested Friday on charges he lured a juvenile into unlawful sexual conduct via social media and the Internet.
Hilliard detectives arrested Josef Vrtiska, 26, after being notified by the FBI Violent Crimes Against Children’s Task Force that Vrtiska may have committed sex crimes against a Hilliard, according to a release on the Hilliard Division of Police Facebook page.
Police say the case is a good example of the dangers of young people meeting strangers on the Internet.
Investigators say Vrtiska initially contacted the victim through Snapchat, made. promises on-line and t developed a relationship with the victim through text-messaging and phone calls before the juvenile was “further victimized.”
The arrest stemmed from a multi-state investigation that has been going on since at least Oct. 1, police said.
After investigating the leads from the federal task force, Hilliard detectives say they issued a warrant and arrested Vrtiska for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. The investigation continues and further charges may be forthcoming pending an indictment, police said.
