Amish Country inn prize in essay contest

MILLERSBURG (AP) — An innkeeper in the heart of Ohio’s Amish country is using an essay contest to decide the new ownership of her inn.

The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports participants have to write, in 200 words or less, why they would be the best new owner of the Garden Gate Get-A-Way, located just outside Millersburg. They also have to submit $150.

Owner Carol Steffey must receive at least 4,500 entries, which would raise more than $600,000, by mid-October in order for the contest to work.

The winner will be chosen in November, and could be the official owner of the 5,000-square-foot inn by mid-December.

Steffey bought the inn in 2002 and has tried unsuccessfully to sell it for a couple of years.

Essay entries are due by Oct. 15.
