COLUMBUS (AP) – Family and friends have said their goodbyes to a journalist known as the “godfather” in Columbus’ black community.
Amos Lynch Sr. helped start the Ohio Sentinel, The Call and Post and The Columbus Post. He was editor of The Call and Post throughout its 33-year existence and was publisher of The Post until his retirement about 10 years ago.
The Columbus Dispatch reports more than 200 family members, religious and community leaders and public officials attended Lynch’s funeral Saturday at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman remembered Lynch as “more than a newspaper man” who impacted all aspects of life in the community.
Lynch had hired, mentored or aided many of those who attended the service. He died on July 24 at the age of 90.
