Area foreclosures at post-recession low

COLUMBUS – The number of home foreclosures in Franklin County declined for the sixth year in a row in 2015, falling 30 percent, according to data released Monday.

The office of Clerk of Courts Maryellen O’Shaughnessy reported 3,803 homes were foreclosed on, compared with 5,460 in 2014.

The continuing decline in foreclosed homes is good news for potential home sellers who have to compete with less-expensive distressed properties on the real estate market.

The number of foreclosures related to the collapse of the housing market and the great recession peaked at 9,547 in 2009 and the annual totals have dropped every year since.
