Area unemployment lowest in 13 years

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The unemployment rate in the eight-county Columbus area fell to its lowest level in more than a decade last month.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported the unemployment rate in central Ohio in October was 3.9 percent, the lowest it has been since October 2001.

At 3.8 percent, Columbus boasted the lowest rate of any of Ohio’s largest cities.

The jobless rate at the beginning of 2014 was 6 percent and it was 6.1 percent in October 2013.

The statewide average in October was 5.3 percent. The national rate was 5.8 percent.
