Arena District becomes Winter Park

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Arena District begins its transformation into Winter Park this weekend, a week in advance of the NHL All-Star Game Weekend.

Columbus Blue Jackets All-Star Winter Park presented by Worthington Industries, located at McFerson Commons across the street from Nationwide Arena, will be open 10 a.m.-10 p.m Thurs-Sun and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

W. Nationwide Boulevard will be reduced to 1 lane between West Street and Marconi Boulevard and John McConnell Boulevard will be closed between New Public Lane and W. Spring Street for the event.

The Honda NHL All-Star Game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25.

The Winter Park, set up on McFerson Commons across the street from Nationwide Arena, will be festooned with 350,000 lights wrapped around trees and hung in canopies. It will feature an outdoor ice rink and 34-foot snow slide and will serve as the hub for outdoor entertainment.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Community Rink (right) is an NHL-sized outdoor ice rink that will feature public skating, youth hockey and other programming. It will be open through Jan. 25.

Fire-pits will be installed near the entrance to the park, the Dispatch Media Group Hockey House will feature live music, food and beverages, and a Kids Zone will host family-friendly activities.
