Argument leads to report of gunfire in Newark Walmart

NEWARK – Three people are in custody after an argument over some dogs ended in a reported shooting at a Newark Walmart Tuesday afternoon.

Newark Division of Police officers responded just after 5:00 p.m. to a report of an active shooter at the store at 1315 N. 21st Street, where employees and bystanders at the scene were able to help officers identify four people of, including Kyle Daugherty, 37, of Newark, who fled the area in a vehicle and was arrested without incident about an hour later at the Old Bag of Nails Restaurant at 1671 N. 21st Street, police spokesman Sgt. Doug Wells said.

Christina Ankrom, 40, and Lauren Dennis, 28, both also of Newark, were arrested on unrelated warrants, Wells said.

It is believed the incident was a result of relationship issues and the ownership and possession of a dog or dogs, Wells said.

No injuries were reported.

All three are being held at the Licking County Justice Center while detectives present the case to the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office on charges of felonious assault and weapons under disability, Wells said.
