Armed teen arrested in home invasion

COLUMBUS – A 16-year-old boy has been charged with multiple offenses after he and two other juveniles held up a man at gunpoint and injured a police officer while trying to get away.

At 3:38 Monday afternoon, detectives say Craivon Johnson and two other juvenile suspects forced their way into the victim’s home on Halstock Court on the Far Northwest Side, police said

The victim, whose name was not released, was held at gunpoint while the suspects took property and fled on foot.

The victim was able to call 911 and an officer responding to the call saw the suspects in the area of Sawbury and Sandbury Boulevards, a short distance south of the scene, investigators said.

The officer chased the boys through the townhome complex before catching up with Johnson in the neighboring complex at Crossover Boulevard and Rosebush Drive, police said.

Detectives say Johnson and the officers struggled and the officer suffered minor injuries.

Police say Johnson apparently tossed away a handgun that was recovered when he was arrested a loaded magazine was recovered from his person.

The arresting officer was treated at Riverside Hospital and released.

Johnson is charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, kidnapping and obstruction with the intent to cause physical harm.
