CLEVELAND, Ohio – Police in Cleveland say an ex-convict who served time for escape and domestic violence has been arrested as a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 5-year-old girl killed while sitting in a vehicle.
Police say charges are expected Wednesday against the 32-year-old suspect. Prison records show he was released in 2012 after serving more than three years on a sentence out of Cleveland.
Police obtained crime-scene surveillance footage of the shooting which also wounded the girl’s mother.
The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports a neighbor’s surveillance footage shows a green SUV pass by the shooting scene, with the camera’s position blocking the view of the shooter.
Authorities identified the slain girl as Jermani Brooks. Her mother, 33-year-old Noni Brooks, was hospitalized in fair condition.
