Arrest made in fatal shooting of unborn child

COLUMBUS – Police Thursday announced the arrest of a suspect in the death of an unborn child in a shooting in August.

Meanwhile, one person was killed in a triple shooting and a teenager injured in separate shooting incidents in Columbus early Friday.

A 24-year-old man was arrested Thursday on a charge of murder stemming from a shooting in August that killed a 15-year-old girl’s unborn son, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.

Christopher Payne is the man police believe opened fire on the pregnant teenager while she and an adult man were walking along Denune Avenue near Joyce Avenue on August 23, Marable said.

The girl was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center where doctors were unable to save her baby boy.

UPDATE 10/7/20 9:51 a.m.: Detectives have charged a 33-year-old man with the 118th murder of the year in Columbus following a deadly triple shooting on the South Side early Friday.

UPDATE 10/9/20 10:40 A.M.: Police say David Bullock surrendered to police on Oct. and was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

Officers responding to a ShotSpotter report of gunshots in the 1700 block of Parsons Avenue just before 2:00 a.m. Friday found two men and a woman, who had been shot, according to Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit.

Andre Clayborn, 38, was found inside a home at 1743 Parsons Avenue, where a number of shots had been fired inside and outside the structure, and died later at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center.

David Bullock has been charged with Clayton’s murder, Marable said in an update on Oct. 7.

Blair Ray, 34, and Jarrett Gordon, 35, were also taken to Grant Medical Center where they were expected to survive, Marable said.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy reported to police that an unknown man shot him in the right leg at about 1:13 a.m. while the victim was walking with two stepbrothers on E. Livingston Avenue at Grattan Road, Sgt. Doug Jones of the Assault Unit said.

The teen was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where Jones says he should recover from his injury.

Neqwon Williams, 19, died after being shot during a fight in front of 1091 E. 21st Avenue just before 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

He ran to an address in the 1000 block of  E. 20th Avenue where he was found and transported to Grant Medical Center, Sgt. Eric Pilya said. Williams died at the hospital, the 117th murder victim of the year.

The suspect, whose name was not released, remained at scene and cooperated with the investigation. Pilot says the case will be presented to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.
