Authorities: man strangled wife, set her on fire

COLUMBUS – Franklin County sheriff’s detectives say a man strangled his wife and then set her ablaze in their Madison Township home.

Mamadou Aliou Diallo, 41, was in the Franklin County Jail Friday, charged with the murder of his wife, Fatoumata Diallo, who was found in the basement of the family’s home in the 3500 block of Noe-Bixby Road by Madison Township firefighters and police responding to a house fire there at approximately 1:24 p.m. Thursday, Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin said.

Authorities said two young children in the home at the time of the fire were unharmed.

State Fire Marshal’s Office Investigators and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office detectives say evidence at the scene indicates that Fatoumata Diallo, 32, had been strangled by her husband during an incident of domestic violence and her body was set on fire, Baldwin said.

Mamadou Aliou Diallo was charged with murder, aggravated arson and tampering with evidence.
