Auto accident behind Hilliard power outage

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An overnight auto accident has damaged a utility transformer on Walcutt Road on the Far West Side, knocking out power to thousands of customers, an American Electric Power spokeswoman said.

UPDATE: Power was restored by 7:00 a.m.

The power was knocked out to about 4,500 customers, after a vehicle struck a utility pole, spokeswoman Teri Flora said.

Columbus police said a Jeep hit the pole on Walcutt Road near Trabue Road and Vulcan Avenue around 1:30 a.m. The driver left the scene but called later to report the accident, police said.
