COLUMBUS – The job of backing up Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has at least temporarily fallen into the willing hands of redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins following news that Joe Burrow would be out indefinitely with a broken hand.

Burrow, a sophomore from Athens, underwent surgery The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Tuesday on his right hand to repair a broken bone and will be sidelined indefinitely, OSU Athletics Department spokesman Jerry Emig announced Wednesday
The injury was sustained during practice on Monday, he said.
Burrow and Haskins have been battling since spring to win the job of Barrett’s chief understudy.
The Buckeyes open their season August 31 at Indiana (8:00 p.m./ESPN).
