Bats 11, Clippers 10

COLUMBUS – Louisville got the better of the Clippers in a back-and-forth slugfest Wednesday night, winning the rubber match of their three-game series, 11-10.

The two teams combined for 29 hits, including Phillip Ervin and Dilson Herrera’s two homers apiece for the Bats.

Herrera started the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run, which Nick Longhi followed with a two-run double as Louisville exploded for five runs to take the lead.

The Clippers went up 7-5 in the fourth as Nellie Rodriguez hit a two-run single to left and the next batter, Greg Allen, hammered a two-run homer.

Trailing 7-6, Louisville took control of the scoreboard back with a three-run sixth. With a runner on first base, Ervin unloaded a two-run homerun to take an 8-7 lead and Herrera then went back-to-back with Ervin, knocking his second home run of the game over the left-field wall to pull ahead at 9-7.

D.J. Peterson’s solo shot in the eighth put the Bats up by a score of 11-9. The Clippers were able to muster only one run the rest of the way.

Tanner Rainey (3-1) pitched the seventh inning to get the win for the Bats while Jon Edwards (0-1) gave up two runs in 1 2/3 innings of work and was saddled with the loss.
