LOUISVILLE – The Clippers dropped the opening game of a three-game series in Louisville, 4-2, Monday evening at Louisville Slugger Field.
Reds’ right-hander Homer Bailey (1-0) gave up the only two Columbus runs in the top of the third, his first run in three rehab outings on a solo homer by Josh Wilson over the bleachers in right field followed by a triple off the bat of Giovanny Urshela, who scored on a hit by Richie Shaffer.
Bailey left in the fifth inning after surrendering seven hits and striking out six hitters.
Kyle Crockett (1-1) gave up three runs in 1 1/3 innings on the mound to take the loss for the Clippers, who left nine runners on base.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon with the first pitch at 12:05 p.m.
