LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Chris Nelson’s walk-off single gave the Louisville Bats a 6-5 victory over the Clippers in their first game of the season away from Huntington Park.
The Clippers fell behind in the 7th inning when the Bats scored three runs to break a 2-2 tie, then Columbus rallied for three runs in the 8th before Nelson poked his third hit of the night over a drawn-in infield, scoring Ruben Gotay.
Nick Hagadone came on in the ninth and took his third loss of the year. Jose “Jumbo” Diaz got the win for the Bats, allowing a walk and nothing else in the top of the ninth.
Game two of the series is scheduled for a 6:35 p.m Friday.
